The defender signed for Rovers from Bray Wanderers in January 2010.
Considered a player with a bright future at this club by many, having put in a number of solid peformances in his limited games, Derek has had to settle for the bench much of this season due to the form of Gavin Peers and Jim Lauchlan, but the 21-year-old insists last year was a learning curve for him and he feels ready to push on and play regular first team football next season, " I feel fully confident in getting a regular spot in the team, I wouldn't have signed back if I wasnt. Last year was mainly a learning curve for me and this year I aim to play as many games as physically possible for me.".
Having asked him about his thoughts ahead of next season, he see's us being the team to beat if we re-sign a few more key players. "We're, in my view, the team to beat next season. Especially if we re-sign more of some of last years players".
Derek is the 6th player to be confirmed for next season by the club, with more players expected to sign soon.
