Rovers beaten for first time in League since May

Sligo Rovers have been beaten in the League for the first time since May when Bohs came back from 1-0 down to win 1-2.

Peers scores opener

Bohs started the game brightly, breaking forward a couple of occasions while Rovers failed to find their passing rhytm, often being dispossesed. Against the run of play, Rovers went on to take the lead in the 10 minute when Peers powered home a great header when he met a Joseph Ndo corner.

Bohs looked a little rocked by the goal, but did hit the back of the net through Killian Brennan in the 20th minute, but it was pulled back for offside.

Rovers were playing better as the game went on, and had the next opportunity of the match when Davoren whipped a ball into the box, but Barry Murphy timed his catch to perfection to prevent the onrushing Eoin Doyle from making contact with it.

Bohs youngster Chris Forrester had a rare first half chance when his pop at goal didn't pose much of a threat as it turned into a routine save for Clarke.

Bohs came out a different team in the second half and had the first opportunity after just 3 minutes when Brennan laid the ball off to Keith Buckley who hit a great effort just wide of the post. Just a minute later, it seemed the whole defence jumped in front of a Brennan effort to keep it from reaching goal.

Aidan Downes had a magnificent chance to make it 1-1 when he surged into the box, but the pressure from John Russell seemed to just do enough to put the striker off as he surprisingly shot wide of the far post.

Bohs were looking more and more likely to get an equaliser, and dead ball specialist Killian Brennan stepped up to take a free kick from 25 yards, but failed to trouble Clarke as he hit it straight at him.

Minutes later, after a seemingly harmless corner was gathered by Clarke, referee Alan kelly pointed to the spot, much to the surprise of everyone, even the Bohs players! A decision definitely worth watching out for on MNS tomorrow. Brennan stepped up to take the penalty and comfortably fired home, sending Clarke the wrong way.

Fans made their feelings known towards Kelly when failed to notice a seemingly clear back pass by Owen Heary to Murphy which the 'keeper picked up, very lucky to have gotten away with that one.

Brennan almost scored a goal of the season contender when he beat Russell and turned towards goal, hitting a delightful curling effort which struck the far upright.

Bohs completed the comeback when Downes surged towards the Rovers box again, and beat Clarke before slotting home from an angle, even more impressive that he appeared to be off balance.

Brennan almost put the game beyond doubt in style when his audacious 40 yard lob almost decieved Clarke, who could only push it over the bar. A deserved win for Bohs in the end, the far hungrier team on the night.

Next up for Rovers is a trip to Belfield Bowl on Saturday when they face UCD.
